10 Signs of Adrenal Fatigue

This “be it all, do it all,” attitude that is destroying us as American Women is deeply rooted in feminism and the American Dream. If I just work hard enough, if I just stay up late enough, if I just put in more effort than other people, then I’m going to make it no matter what.

What one woman’s body can handle, another women’s body can handle more of, and another woman can handle less. We are all created differently. So we get stuck in the trap of comparing ourselves to the woman who can do more, when our body is screaming at us. We have made a sport out of ignoring our bodies.

As a personal trainer I noticed some women had a really hard time connecting their bodies and movements. Many of these women were also extremely busy people who never took a break. I was super convicted by this personally because I was wearing my own body down and just not listening to the burnout signals it was sending.

Being mindful with your body in the moment, and listening to it, day to day, is a heck of a lot cheaper, than ignoring it for years and decades, and then having to have corrective surgeries, and step away from things, and completely overhaul your life. I beg you to get it right now.

I was a personal trainer and I was so exhausted I was nodding off in sessions and drinking two cups of coffee in the afternoon. I was ignoring my feelings and stuffing them down. I had headaches for 6 months and started getting nauseous after. My joins began to ache. I was shoving milk shakes in my system and whatever I could get down to give me quick energy. I started waking up several times a night.

When you’re extremely stressed and your body is sensing a threat, you begin to produce excessive cortisol and your body gives you these 10 signs of Adrenal Fatigue:

  • Extreme fatigue
  • Daily prolonged headaches
  • Heart palpitations
  • Stomach aches, diarrhea, and new food sensitivities
  • Joint aches
  • Waking up several times a night or trouble going to sleep
  • Dizzy spells
  • Hair loss
  • Mind racing
  • Weight gain, or extreme weight loss

I encourage you instead, to feel your feelings, pay attention to your signs and symptoms and move through them. You are not going there sister. You can do this. We can do this together.

Here are some really practical tips you can do right now today. #1 Snap and Journal: Stop, notice, aware, and process. #2: Stop giving yourself verbal blow offs. “Oh I’m just shot mess.” It’s not funny because it’s true.
